# Segmentation mapping

Group the raw segments coming from your source system into the segments you actually want to report on.

Segmentation mapping tells revhero how the raw segments arriving from a source system group together into segments that mean something to you. Tidy the mapping once here and every segmentation filter and business-mix breakdown in the rest of the product reads cleanly.

This is a set-once screen rather than one you work in daily, and it is available to administrators. Open the **user menu** at the top right of the app and choose **Segments Mapping**. A minimal left rail gives you **Back to Dashboard** when you are done.

*Each raw segment from the provider is placed into a segment you named — or it sits in the unassigned bucket.*

## What a segmentation group is

A segmentation group ties three things together:

* **A data provider** — the source system whose segments the group maps from
* **A set of properties** the group covers, which can be many
* **A segment mapping** — the assignment of that provider's raw segments into your own segments

You build a group through a short wizard, then manage it from the list.

## The list

One row per group:

| Column | What it shows |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Segmentation Group** | The group's display name. Click it to open the group |
| **Property** | The properties the group covers, as a list. A long list is truncated with a **+N More** link that expands it |
| **Data Provider** | The source system the group maps from |
| **Actions** | A per-row menu with **Edit Segmentation Group** and **Delete Segmentation Group** |

Above the table sit a **Property** filter, a **Data Provider** filter, and the **+ New Group** button.

The data provider is the source system the segments come from; the group name is just a label, and does not have to echo it.

## Creating a group

Choose **+ New Group**. A step indicator sits in the bottom bar alongside **Cancel**, **Back** from step two onwards, and **Next** or **Save**.

### Step 1 — Details

Give the group a **Group Name**, which is required before you can continue, and pick its **Data Provider**. The provider you choose here scopes the rest of the wizard: step three will offer that provider's segments and no others.

### Step 2 — Properties

Choose which properties the group covers, using the searchable multi-select. Type to filter the list, use **Select All** to take every property at once, or tick them individually. A **Selected** counter confirms how many the group will cover — and that count is what drives the property list and the **+N More** figure back on the main table.

### Step 3 — Segments

This is the heart of it: assigning raw source segments to your own.

* **+ Add Segment** creates one of your segments for source segments to be assigned to.
* The **source segment chips** are the provider's raw segments, shown as a dense grid of small labels waiting to be placed. Click a chip to assign it to the segment you are working on.
* **Search** filters the chips when a provider sends a long list.

Anything you leave unplaced stays in the unassigned bucket, so nothing is silently lost — but a crowded unassigned bucket is exactly what makes business-mix analysis hard to read later. Work through the chips properly the first time.

{% hint style="info" %}
The group is only saved when you choose **Save** on the Segments step. Choosing **Cancel**, or navigating away before that, discards the whole group you were building.
{% endhint %}

## Editing and deleting

Inside the create or edit screen, the group's name appears as a figure with two icons — a pencil to rename the group and a cross to delete it.

From the list, open a row's actions menu:

* **Edit Segmentation Group** reopens the wizard, so you can change the provider, the properties or the mapping.
* **Delete Segmentation Group** removes the group.

Each of create, edit and delete confirms with a success message when it completes.

## The fields at a glance

| Field | Where | What it does |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Group Name** | Step 1, and the editor figure | The display name shown in the list. Required |
| **Data Provider** | Step 1 | The source system whose raw segments the group maps from; scopes which segments step three offers |
| **Property** | Step 2 | The properties the group covers |
| **Segment** | Step 3 | One of your segments, created with **+ Add Segment**, that source segments are assigned to |
| **Source segment** | Step 3 | A raw segment from the provider, shown as a chip, placed into one of your segments or left unassigned |

## Finding a group again

Use the **Property** filter to show only the groups covering one hotel, or the **Data Provider** filter to show only groups mapping from one source system. On a portfolio with several providers in play, the provider filter is usually the faster of the two.
