# Revenue

Your total room revenue for the period, with pace, last year's close, budget attainment and your share of online demand.

The **Revenue** widget shows your total room revenue for the selected period. It is the headline financial figure on the Dashboard. Its comparisons tell you whether you are ahead of last year and on budget.

Revenue here is gross of VAT and net of channel commission. Per-night charges such as city tax or environmental tax are separate. They are not part of this figure.

The **Cancellations** tick box in the filter bar decides whether cancelled reservations are included.

Revenue and [Room Nights](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/room-nights.md) are the only 2 widgets that also show **Online Market Share**.

*Each stay date brings its own revenue. The headline is all 30 of them added together.*

## What you see

| Element | What it means |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Headline value, purple (for example `181,273.50€`) | Room revenue for the period. Where the dates are still ahead, the figure is forecast |
| **VS STLY** (for example `164,601.16€` `↑ 10.13%`) | STLY means Same Time Last Year. It is the revenue at the same point in last year's booking window |
| **LY Actual** (for example `168,043.14€` `↑ 7.87%`) | The revenue last year finally reached for the same period |
| **Forecasting** (for example `184,001.28€` `↓ 1.48%`) | The projected close. Expanded view only. The figure turns red when the forecast lands below your current pace |
| Budget bar (for example `135,000.00€` → `134.28%`) | Your target and your attainment. Attainment can go above 100% |
| **Online Market Share CY / LY** | Your share of online demand this year, against the same point last year |

Click the ⤢ icon to expand the card and see **Forecasting** and the **Reference Date**.

{% hint style="info" %}
You enter budget revenue directly in [Budget & Target](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/budget-target.md). Where you set none, a purple **Add budget** link appears in place of the bar. This is the normal empty state, not a fault.
{% endhint %}

## Online Market Share

* **CY** means current year. It is your share of the online demand captured for this period, for example `9.51%`.
* **LY** means last year. It is your share at the same point last year, for example `9.95%`.

Green means you are ahead of last year. Grey means flat. Red means behind.

These 2 figures separate 2 different problems. If your revenue is down but your share is up, the market shrank and you took more of it. If your revenue is down and your share is down too, you are losing to your competitors.

## The chart

Over a full month, or any longer range, the chart draws 3 lines. The vertical axis is in €. There is 1 point for each stay date.

| Line | What it shows |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| **Purple**, labelled with the month in view (for example `JUNE`) | Current revenue for each stay date |
| **Teal `STLY`** | The same dates last year |
| **Pink dashed `FORECASTING`** | The projection over future stay dates |

Pick a short custom range of only a few days and the chart changes to paired bars. You get a purple current-period bar beside a teal STLY bar for each day. There is no forecast series in that shape.

Hold your pointer over any stay date to see 3 figures. For example: `13 June 2026: 7,005.16€`, `13 June 2025: 4,375.97€`, `LY Actual: 4,375.97€`. The lines carry no labels, so the tooltip is the only way to read exact daily values.

## How to read it

1. **Read the headline and the figures** to get the direction.
2. **Check attainment.** 81% halfway through the period means you are on pace. 81% with 1 week left means you will miss the target.
3. **Find the days that hurt.** Expand the card and look for the purple line below the teal line. Hold your pointer over those dates. If specific stay dates are losing business, check [Pickup](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/pickup.md). Also check whether a rate plan or a restriction is blocking bookings.
4. **Add market context.** Read the 2 Online Market Share figures. Then check [Competitor Rate Analysis](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/competitor-rate-analysis.md) before you decide the problem is yours.

## If something looks wrong

| What you see | Usual cause | What to do |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Revenue reads 0 | The period holds no stay dates, or the filters are too narrow | Clear the filters and check the period |
| **LY Actual** shows `—` | Less than 12 months of history | Use the budget bar as your comparison until you have a full year |
| No Online Market Share | Online demand tracking is not switched on for the property | Check [Integrations](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-setup/integrations.md) |
| Revenue changes sharply overnight | A group booking arrived or cancelled | Check the [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md) |
| Gaps in the revenue line | No published rate, or no available rooms, on those stay dates | Publish rate plans again for those dates |

## Common questions

**Does it include VAT?** Yes. Revenue is gross, so VAT is included. City tax and similar per-night charges are not.

**Why is VS STLY positive while LY Actual is negative?** STLY is the same point in time, so part of last year's period was still ahead of you. LY Actual is a finished comparison. STLY is the early signal. LY Actual is the result.

**Where does Online Market Share come from?** It is your share of the total online interest in your market for the period. See [Online Demand — Overall](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/online-demand-overall.md).
