# Booking Pace

Track the running total of bookings against last year, with property and market demand below it.

The **Booking Pace** widget shows the running total of bookings for the selected period. It tells you how much was booked by each date before the period started. It answers 1 question: are you ahead of last year, level with it, or behind it?

**Pace** is the level you have reached. [Pickup](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/pickup.md) is the speed you are adding at. You need both. The widget title carries a **VS STLY** subtitle. **STLY** means Same Time Last Year, so the comparison is last year at the same stage of the booking window.

![Pace is the gap between this year and last year](https://272652298-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FnzEa7YGji6t92Mfc0ZJ1%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-af9b7ceb3556339bce711d157a523bdf58280338%2Fpace-against-last-year.svg?alt=media)

*Both curves climb towards the arrival date. The gap between them at today's point in the booking window is your pace.*

## What you see

Collapsed, the widget shows 1 area chart. It has a metric dropdown with **Revenue** and **Room Nights**. Room Nights is selected by default. A **room night** is 1 room sold for 1 night.

Click the ⤢ icon to expand it. You then get 2 stacked charts. The metric dropdown becomes a **Revenue / Room Nights** toggle at the top left. A **Stay Demand: Property / Market** toggle appears at the top right, beside the **Reference Date**.

### The top chart — your pace

| Series | What it shows | Colour |
| ------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------- | ------ |
| The period name (for example `JUNE`) | The running total of bookings for the current period | Purple |
| **`STLY`** | The running total at the same stage last year | Teal |

Both lines only climb, because they are running totals. A soft purple fill sits under the current curve.

### The bottom chart — Stay Demand

This chart appears in the expanded view only. The **Stay Demand: Property / Market** toggle switches it.

* **Property Stay Demand** shows online interest in your hotel for stay dates inside the period.
* **Market Stay Demand** shows the same signal across your market.

| Series | Colour |
| ------------------------------------ | ------ |
| The period name (for example `JUNE`) | Orange |
| **`STLY`** | Blue |

### Hover

Hold your pointer over a date to pin a tooltip. It shows the current-year value, the last-year value and a percentage figure.

Collapsed, you get 1 block for the metric you chose. For example: `Room Nights / 13 June 2026: 377 ↑5.01% / 13 June 2025: 359`.

Expanded, you get both charts at once. You then read bookings and demand for the same date together.

The expanded view shows **`Last Upd.`** at the bottom left, with the date and time your booking data last arrived.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Check **Last Upd.** first. If your data is not current, email **<support@revhero.com>** before you act on these numbers.
{% endhint %}

## How to read it

| Pattern | What it means |
| ------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Purple above teal | You are booking faster than last year. Hold your rates or raise them |
| Purple climbs steeply early, then flattens | Bookings arrived early. Watch for a weak late period and push your channels |
| Purple matching teal | Neutral. You are neither ahead nor behind |
| Purple below teal on most dates | You are behind pace. Check your rate against the market, and check demand |

### Read pace against demand

| Combination | What it means |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Pace flat, Stay Demand climbing | The interest is there, but it does not convert. Check your rate, your visibility and your restrictions. The market is not the problem |
| Pace climbing, Stay Demand falling | You are taking demand faster than it arrives. Pickup will run out. Raise your rate |
| Both moving together | Your funnel is healthy |

### Switch the metric

Room Nights pace shows growth in volume. Revenue pace shows growth in money. When the 2 move apart, you are discounting. Room nights climbing while revenue stays flat is the clearest case.

### Property against market

Your pace may be up while Market Stay Demand is up much more. You are then losing ground against the market, even though your own numbers improved.

## If something looks wrong

| What you see | Usual cause | What to do |
| --------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| No STLY line | Less than 12 months of history | Wait until you have a full year of data |
| Pace flat at 0 | No stay dates in the period, or no published rate plans | Check the period, and check your rate plans are published |
| No Stay Demand line | Online demand tracking is not enabled for the property | Check [Integrations](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-setup/integrations.md) |
| Market demand far below property demand | Your competitor set is too small | Review it in [Competitors & competitor groups](/revhero-docs/roompulse/rate-settings/competitors.md) |
| The running total appears to fall | A large cancellation moved bookings between periods | Check the [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md) |
| Pace flat while pickup is positive | Cancellations roughly match new bookings | This is normal. Check [Pickup](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/pickup.md) |
| **Last Upd.** is not current | Your booking data has not arrived | Email <support@revhero.com> |

## Common questions

**What is the difference between pickup and booking pace?** Pace is the running total. For example: "by 15 May, 320 room nights were booked". Pickup is what you added. For example: "we added 72 room nights in the last 7 days".

**Where does Stay Demand come from?** It comes from online search and shopping interest for stay dates inside the period. It is shown as a relative index, not a count. See [Online Demand — Per Day](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/online-demand-per-day.md).

**Can I see 1 stay date at a time instead of the running total?** Yes. Use [Pickup](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/pickup.md) or [Online Demand — Per Day](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/online-demand-per-day.md).

**Why does my pace line jump on 1 date?** A group booking or a large booking for several nights landed. A running total steps up when a large booking arrives.
