# A recommended layout

The smallest set of Daily Performance columns that shows how each day is pacing and where you sit against the market.

Daily Performance can show more than 80 columns. That is too many to read quickly. It is far too many to compare across several properties.

This page gives the layout we suggest you start from. It is the smallest set that answers 3 questions in a single left-to-right read.

* How is each day pacing?
* Against what?
* Where is my price against the market?

The set comes to about 18 to 20 visible columns, in 8 groups. It fits a normal laptop screen. You do not have to scroll past your pinned columns. Start here, then change it to suit you. Do not build from an empty table.

*The suggested order reads left to right as one question: where am I, against what, and what do I do about the price.*

## The 3 rules behind it

1. **Show OTB and STLY only, for each metric.** **OTB** means On The Books: what is booked now. **STLY** means Same Time Last Year. Add LY, BDGT, FCST and the variance chips when you need them, and hide them again afterwards.
2. **Inside the pickup groups, show the room-nights column only.** The other pickup figures change too much from day to day to read reliably.
3. **Hide the individual competitor columns.** Median Rate against My Property is the headline. Show the named competitors only when you investigate something unusual.

## The set, group by group

### DATES — visible and pinned

| Field | Visible | Pinned |
| ----- | ------- | ------ |
| Date | Yes | Yes |
| Day | Yes | Yes |

### AVAIL — visible and pinned

| Field | Visible | Pinned |
| ----- | ------- | ------ |
| TOT | Yes | Yes |
| ONL | Yes | Yes |

### RN — Room Nights

| Field | Visible |
| ------------------------------------- | ------- |
| OTB | Yes |
| STLY | Yes |
| LY, BDGT, FCST and all variance chips | Hidden |

### PU-7 and PU-7 STLY — pickup

**Pickup** is the number of room nights added over a recent period. PU-7 covers the last 7 days.

| Field | Visible |
| --------------------- | ------- |
| RN | Yes |
| OCC, REV, ADR, RevPAR | Hidden |

Both pickup groups take the same shape. PU-7 RN and PU-7 STLY RN then sit next to each other. You read your pace in 1 step.

### OCC — Occupancy

| Field | Visible |
| ----------------------------------------- | ------- |

| STLY | Yes |
| vs STLY | Yes |
| LY, BDGT, FCST, vs LY, vs BUDGET, vs FCST | Hidden |

### REV — Revenue

| Field | Visible |
| ----------------------------------- | ------- |
| OTB | Yes |
| STLY | Yes |
| BDGT | Yes |
| vs STLY | Yes |
| LY, FCST, vs LY, vs BUDGET, vs FCST | Hidden |

### COMPETITOR RATE

| Field | Visible |
| ---------------------- | ------- |
| Median Rate | Yes |
| My Property | Yes |
| Individual competitors | Hidden |

### ONLINE DEMAND OTB and ONLINE DEMAND STLY

| Field | Visible |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- |
| Hotel Stay | Yes |
| Market Stay | Yes |
| Hotel Search, Market Search, Share of Demand Search, Share of Demand Stay | Hidden |

### ADR and RevPAR — hidden

The revenue and room-night columns on screen already give you both. Keeping them hidden keeps the view narrow. Switch them on when you need a closer look.

## Applying it

1. **Open Daily Performance** and click the **Columns** icon at the top right.
2. **Click Clear All**, so you start from an empty table.
3. **Tick the fields marked Yes above**, working down the groups in order.
4. **Drag** any column that is in the wrong place.
5. **Pin Date, Day, AVAIL TOT and AVAIL ONL**, using each column's ⋮ menu.
6. **Close the panel.** Revhero saves the layout for you, on that property.

Apply it on each property where you want it. Layouts are saved per property, so a group of hotels takes about 1 minute each.

{% hint style="info" %}
If a property has no competitor rate data, hide the whole COMPETITOR RATE group. Do not leave empty columns in the part of the table you read. Empty columns take your attention and give you nothing.
{% endhint %}

## Changing it to suit you

The recommended set is a starting point, not a fixed rule. These are the most common additions.

| If you… | Add | Why |
| ---------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Track budget delivery closely | REV BDGT, REV vs BUDGET, RN BDGT | Daily budget attainment becomes your main metric. |
| Compare several properties | OCC vs STLY, REV vs STLY | Percentages compare across properties more easily than amounts in euros. |
| Work with a competitor set whose rates differ widely | The individual competitor columns | When competitor rates differ sharply, the median alone can mislead you. |
| Lead with the forecast | RN FCST, REV FCST, OCC vs FCST | Useful when the budget was set long ago and the forecast is the better benchmark. |
| Focus on channel mix | Nothing — use the Segmentation filter | Filter instead of adding columns, then read the OTB column again. |

## Why the set is shaped this way

**Why hide ADR and RevPAR?** Both follow from revenue and room nights, and both of those are already on screen. Showing them adds width and adds no information.

**Why hide most competitor columns?** The median is the headline for your competitor set. An individual competitor matters when you investigate something unusual. For example, a property that closed out, or one that prices below you. Switch that column on for as long as you need it.

**Why STLY and not LY?** STLY is the same point in the booking window, which is the right comparison for pace. **LY** means Last Year: where last year finally closed. That is more useful at month end.

**Should everyone use the same layout?** Everyone should start from the same layout. Then add or remove 2 or 3 columns to suit your role. Keeping the core groups the same for everyone makes meetings faster, because nobody has to ask where a column went.

See [Customising your view](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/daily-performance/customisation.md) for the controls, and [The fields](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/daily-performance/fields.md) for what each column contains.
