## Hotel Market Segments

The groups your guests fall into, each with its own needs, booking behaviour and price sensitivity. You classify bookings by segment so you can see which type of business drives your results.

Common segments:

| Segment | What they want |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Corporate / transient business | Meeting rooms, fast internet, midweek stays |
| Leisure | Relaxation and activities — spa, tours, packages |
| Group | Several rooms together, a group rate |
| Luxury | High-end rooms and premium service |
| Budget | A low rate and the basics |
| Wholesale, crew and government | Contracted rates, steady volume |

Each segment books at a different time, at a different price and through a different channel. Reading your results by segment shows you where the opportunity is.

## Hotel Market Share

The share of your market's total revenue that you earn.

**Hotel market share = your revenue ÷ total market revenue × 100**

Your revenue is €500,000 and the market's total is €5,000,000. Market share = €500,000 ÷ €5,000,000 × 100 = 10%.

Compare it against your fair market share to see whether you are taking more or less than your size alone would give you.
