# Availability settings

Set the room counts that decide when a competitor's availability reads as Low, Moderate or High.

The **Availability** tab sets two room-count thresholds, and those thresholds sort every availability figure in RoomPulse into one of three ranges. Open it from the **gear** icon, then **Availability**.

*Two room counts you set sort every availability figure into Low, Moderate or High.*

## The three ranges

| Range        | When it applies                              |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------- |
| **Low** | Fewer rooms available than the low threshold |
| **Moderate** | Between the two thresholds |
| **High** | More rooms available than the high threshold |

**Low** tells you a competitor is running out. **High** tells you they are wide open. Both are worth knowing before you price against them.

## Setting the thresholds

Two controls, each with a **−** / **+** stepper:

* **less than \[ ]** — the **low** threshold. Availability below this figure reads as **Low**.
* **more than \[ ]** — the **high** threshold. Availability above this figure reads as **High**.

With the low threshold at 10 and the high at 20:

| Rooms available | Range        |
| --------------- | ------------ |
| Fewer than 10   | **Low**      |
| 10 to 20        | **Moderate** |
| More than 20    | **High**     |

**Save** applies the thresholds. **Reset** restores the previous values.

{% hint style="info" %}
Set these against the size of the hotels in your comp set, not your own. Eight rooms left is tight for a 200-room resort and comfortable for a 20-room boutique, and a single pair of thresholds has to serve both.
{% endhint %}

## Where the ranges are used

* The **Availability** display option on the [calendar](/revhero-docs/roompulse/rate-settings/calendar.md).
* The **Availability** column in the [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) day detail, where each competitor is shown in its range.
* The **Sold Out Competitors** alert type — see [Alerts](/revhero-docs/roompulse/alerts.md).

Change the thresholds once here and every availability reading in RoomPulse re-sorts.

## A note on reading availability

Availability is what a competitor has loaded and left open on the channel — not a count of the empty rooms in their building. Most hotels do not expose their whole inventory to any one channel. Read the ranges as a direction of travel rather than an exact room count, and read them alongside the price: a competitor holding a high rate with **Low** availability is having a very different month from one holding the same rate with **High** availability.
