# Promotions

See which competitors have started or stopped a promotion, and on which nights it applies.

The **Promotions** screen tracks the promotional activity RoomPulse can see on your comp set — who has added a promotion, who has removed one, and which nights it covers. Coverage varies by channel, so read it as a signal rather than a full list.

A competitor dropping their rate is one signal. A competitor *starting a campaign* is a different and often earlier one. It says something about how they expect a period to sell, and it changes their visibility as well as their price.

*The shape of the run tells you more than the headline percentage.*

## Reading the screen

Each row is a competitor and a change:

* **The promotion added or removed**, with its value — a 5% offer withdrawn, for example.
* **The next 90 nights**, marked per date. A marked night is one the promotion or discount applies to; an unmarked night has no promotional deal running.

That 90-night strip is the useful part. It shows the *shape* of a competitor's promotional calendar, which tells you far more than the headline percentage:

| What the strip looks like | What it usually means |
| ---------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| A short block over one period | They have a specific weak patch to fill |
| A continuous run across the whole window | A blanket campaign — a volume strategy, not a demand read |
| Marks concentrated on midweek nights | A weekday occupancy problem you may share |
| A promotion withdrawn over a period | They are confident about those dates |

## Why it matters beyond price

Promotional programmes affect where a property appears in OTA search results, not just what it costs. So the screen answers two questions at the same time:

1. Are my competitors discounting, and when?
2. Are they buying visibility that I am not?

The second is easy to miss when you only watch rates — and it explains how a competitor can outperform you on a date where your price is lower than theirs.

## Using it alongside the rate screens

* A competitor's price falling on [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) with a promotion appearing here is a campaign, and campaigns end. A price falling with no promotion behind it is a repositioning, and those tend to stick.
* The rate detail on [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) shows the promotion tag on an individual rate. This screen shows the pattern across the whole comp set.
* If a promotion has started across several competitors on the same dates, that is a market signal, not a competitor decision. Check your own [pickup](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/pickup.md) for those dates before you follow them down.
