# Using RoomPulse day to day

A practical routine for working with RoomPulse — what to check each morning, what deserves a rate change, and what to review monthly.

Most hotels open RoomPulse, look at the market, and close it again. That is watching, not yielding. This page is the routine that turns it into decisions.

*A morning scan sets the day. A short second look catches what moved. A monthly review keeps the comp set honest.*

## The morning scan

15 to 20 minutes, before the day fills up. Do it in this order.

1. **Read the near dates first.** Today to 7 days ahead. These are the dates where a rate change still has time to work.
2. **Open** [**Market Rates**](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) and read your position against the market median for those dates.
3. **Check your** [**Alerts**](/revhero-docs/roompulse/alerts.md)**.** Anything that fired overnight has already told you where to look.
4. **Act where it matters**, on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md).

Read further out on a different day. Near dates reward speed. Far dates reward thought, and they are still there tomorrow.

## What actually deserves a rate change

Four things are worth acting on. Everything else is noise.

| What you see | Why it matters | Where to look |
| ------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **A parity break** | One of your own channels is selling your hotel at a different price. You are competing with yourself | [Parity](/revhero-docs/roompulse/parity.md) and [MetaRadar](/revhero-docs/roompulse/metaradar.md) |
| **You are cheaper on a strong date** | You are filling rooms you would have filled anyway, at a lower rate | [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) |
| **Demand is rising** | Interest in your dates is building, or competitors are selling out | [Online Demand](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/online-demand-per-day.md) |
| **Something local is happening** | An event, a closure or a holiday moves the whole market at once | [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md), read across dates |

**Try this:** when an alert fires, check it on the screen before you act. An alert tells you something changed. The screen tells you whether it matters.

## The second look

A short check later in the day catches what moved since the morning. Near dates move fastest, so this is where a same-day or next-day surprise shows up.

This does not need to be long. 2 minutes is enough to see whether anything has changed since you set the day up.

## The monthly review

Once a month, spend longer and look backwards rather than forwards.

| What to review | What you are looking for |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The last 30 to 45 days of your rate position | Were you consistently above or below the market, and did it pay? |
| Your [comp set](/revhero-docs/roompulse/choosing-your-comp-set.md) | Is each hotel still a genuine competitor? Comp sets age |
| Your [alert](/revhero-docs/roompulse/alerts.md) thresholds | Are you getting alerts you always ignore? Tighten them |
| The decisions you made | Did the dates you changed perform better than the ones you left? |

That last row is the one most hotels skip, and it is the only one that tells you whether any of this is working.

{% hint style="info" %}
An alert you ignore every week is worse than no alert. It trains you to dismiss the whole system. Either change the threshold so it means something, or switch it off.
{% endhint %}

## If you only do one thing

Read the near dates each morning and fix parity breaks the day they appear. Those two habits recover more revenue than any amount of studying the market.
