# Alerts

Build rules that watch the market for you and tell you when a competitor moves, your position drifts, or a channel undercuts you.

Alerts are how you stop watching screens. You set a rule, and RoomPulse tells you when the market meets it — a competitor repricing, your own price drifting out of position, a channel selling below you, or a share of your comp set selling out.

Open them from the **bell** icon on the Rate Shopper bar. The screen is titled *"Get notified for market changes."* When a rule is met you are notified by email and push, and the event is recorded in that alert's log.

*You set the condition; the market meets it; the notification, the log entry and the calendar marker follow.*

## The alerts list

One row per alert:

| Column | What it shows |
| -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Name** | The name you gave it |
| **Created** | When it was created |
| **Type** | Which of the four types it is |
| **Ruleset** | A short summary of the trigger — the competitors watched, the threshold and the condition |
| **Room Types** | The room types it watches |
| **Rate** | The rate basis it uses |
| **Status** | Whether it is Active |

Each row's **⋮** menu holds four actions:

| Action | What it does |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Edit** | Opens the alert pre-filled so you can change it |
| **Duplicate** | Clones it into a new alert, named *Copy*, for you to adjust |
| **Delete** | Removes it, after confirming |
| **Log** | Opens that alert's history of when it fired. Until it fires, the log reads *"There is no log currently!"* |

With no alerts yet, the screen reads **"No alerts found!"** with a control to add one. New alerts start from **Add New Alert** at the top right, where you pick the type.

## The four types

### Rate Change

Fires when your competitors move their rates by a set percentage.

| Setting | What it does |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Select Competitors** | Which competitors to watch |
| **Rate Change Percentage** | How big a move triggers it |
| **Trigger** | Which direction counts — **Increase**, **Decrease**, or **Increase and Decrease** |
| **Monitor Competitor(s) Price Change** | How many must move — **All competitors should change**, **At least one should change**, or **More than selected percentage should change** |
| **Monitor Room Type Change** | Whether the comparison follows the **Lowest Available Rate** or holds to the **Same Room Type** |

That third setting is the one that separates a market move from one hotel's decision. Requiring, say, a third of your comp set to reprice before the alert fires turns it from a notification into a signal.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Watch for room-type substitution.** When the room a competitor was being compared on sells out, the comparison moves to their next available room. A cheap room selling out and a family room taking its place reads as a sharp price rise that never happened. Before acting on a Rate Change alert, check which room the new price belongs to — see [Room mapping](/revhero-docs/roompulse/rate-settings/room-mapping.md).
{% endhint %}

### Rate Comparison

Compares **your** price against a market reference and fires when you sit inside or outside a range around it.

| Setting | What it does |
| ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Select Competitors** | The competitors that form the reference |
| **Point of Reference** | The **Median** of those competitors, or the **Least Expensive** of them |
| **Lowest Threshold (%)** and **Highest Threshold (%)** | The range around the reference. Negative values place the range below it |
| **Trigger alert when your price is…** | Whether it fires **inside** or **outside** the range |

Set to the Median with a 10% to 20% range, triggering when outside, it fires when your price leaves that range.

**Least Expensive** is the choice for a rule about staying under a particular rival rather than under the market. Reference **Least Expensive**, thresholds of −10% and −5%, triggering when outside: that holds you between 5% and 10% below whichever selected competitor is cheapest, and tells you the moment you drift out of that corridor in either direction.

### Parity Price Comparison

Fires when a channel sells below your rate by more than a threshold.

| Setting | What it does |
| -------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Select Providers** | The channels to watch |
| **Trigger Threshold** and **Threshold Type** | The size of the undercut, as an **Amount** or a percentage |
| **Google Metasearch** | Includes Google metasearch in the check |
| **Ignore Booking.com Partner Offers** | Excludes Booking.com partner offers |

See [Parity](/revhero-docs/roompulse/parity.md) for the screen behind this one.

### Sold Out Competitors

Fires when a share of your competitors are sold out — the earliest warning you get that a date is compressing.

| Setting | What it does |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Select Competitors** | The competitors to watch |
| **Include** | How to count them — **Any**, **All** or **Some** |
| **Competitors Inclusion (%)** | The share that must be sold out to trigger it |

## Settings every alert shares

### Alert Details

| Field | What it controls |
| ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------- |
| **Room Types** | Which room types the alert watches |
| **Rate** | The rate basis — **Lowest** or **Lowest Flex** |
| **Length of Stay** | The stay length watched, from 1 to 7 nights |
| **Meal** | The board basis used |

### Timeframe & Frequency

* **Frequency** — **Daily**, or on a **Schedule** you set.
* **Time Ahead** — how far forward it looks, from 7 days up to 5 months.

### Recipients

* **Email Recipients** — who receives it by email.
* **Push Notifications Emails** — additional addresses for push notifications, each removable.

### Finalize Alert

Give it an **Alert Name**, then **Create Alert** — or **Save Alert** when editing. **Cancel** discards it.

## Check the rule before you save it

When you edit an alert, the form restates it in plain English under *"Your alert translates to:"*. Read that line. Negative thresholds and inside-versus-outside conditions are easy to get backwards, and this sentence is where you catch it.

## What arrives, and where it shows up

A triggered alert arrives as a digest rather than a single line. A Rate Change alert lists the affected dates, the room types involved and the average move across the competitors that changed. A parity alert lists each date, the channel undercutting you and the depth of the undercut.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Read the `New` badge carefully.** In a Rate Change digest, room types marked **New** changed since yesterday. Rows without the badge are earlier changes that still meet the rule. Both are real, but only the badged rows are movement since you last looked.
{% endhint %}

Alerts also surface in the product. On the [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) calendar, a date with a triggered alert carries a bell marker, and opening it shows an **"Attention needed for your below alerts!"** banner with an **Open Overview** link to the detail — the competitor rate, your rate, and the difference that fired the rule.

## The alert log

Each alert keeps its own log of every time it fired, from **⋮ → Log**. It is the quickest way to tell a rule that is doing its job from one that is too loose: an alert firing every day is not telling you anything.
