# Start here

What Revhero and RoomPulse do together, how the screens fit into one working process, and what to do in your first week.

Revhero and RoomPulse are one package, and you work with them as one process.

* **RoomPulse** is the rate shopping tool. It reads what your competitors charge, and where your own rate sits against them.
* **Revhero** is the revenue management system. It reads your bookings and your demand, suggests a rate for each date, and sends the rates you approve to your channels.

You sign in to both with the same credentials. RoomPulse and Revhero also share the competitor list you build, so the market picture is the same in both.

Together they do 5 things:

1. Watch demand for your hotel.
2. Watch what your market is charging.
3. Decide what each date is worth.
4. Set your rates.
5. Send those rates to your channels.

You do not have to rebuild a spreadsheet every morning.

Read this page once to get your bearings. Then use the rest of the manual when you need it.

*Settings is finished once. After that you move left to right every morning, and you send from the Yielding Board.*

## What the package does for you

| What it does | Where it happens | What that means |
| --------------------------------- | ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Watches your bookings** | Revhero | Revhero records your bookings as they arrive. It compares them against last year and against your budget. |
| **Shows you the market** | RoomPulse | You see what your competitors charge, and where your own rate sits. |
| **Checks your own channels** | RoomPulse | You see whether any channel is selling your hotel below your own price. |
| **Suggests a rate** | Revhero | Revhero suggests a rate for every date on your calendar. |
| **Gives you a yielding calendar** | Revhero | You see quickly which dates need your attention. |
| **Sends rates to your channels** | Revhero | You send rates in one action, for as many dates as you have selected. |

Neither product replaces your judgement. They put the numbers in front of you. You make the decision, and you decide what goes out.

## The screens you will use most

After the first week, most of your daily work happens on 4 screens. Three are in Revhero, and one is in RoomPulse.

### 1. Dashboard

The Dashboard is your morning screen. It shows occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, revenue, room nights, pickup and pace for the period you choose. It shows your competitive position next to them.

If a number looks wrong, click it to open the detail.

See [Dashboard](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard.md).

### 2. Yielding Board

The Yielding Board shows every date in one grid or one calendar. Each date shows your current rate, what is on the books and what is happening around that date. **On the books** means the confirmed bookings you already hold for a date.

This is the screen where you set a rate and send it.

See [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md).

### 3. Rate Recommendations

Rate Recommendations shows a suggested rate for every date. You accept, edit or ignore each suggestion. You can work date by date, or on many dates at once.

See [Rate Recommendations](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations.md).

### 4. Market Rates, in RoomPulse

Market Rates shows your competitors' public rates for every stay date, with your own rate beside them. Read it before you decide a rate, not after you have sent one.

See [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md).

## The order you work in

The two products meet at one point: the rate you decide. A normal morning runs like this.

1. Read the [Dashboard](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard.md). How is the property performing, and what changed overnight?
2. Read [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) in RoomPulse. What is the market doing on the dates you care about?
3. Read the [rate recommendations](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations.md). What does Revhero suggest?
4. Decide, and send, on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md).

Steps 1 to 3 are information. Step 4 is the only one that changes a price.

See [The 15-minute daily routine](/revhero-docs/getting-started/daily-routine.md) for the full version, and [Using RoomPulse day to day](/revhero-docs/roompulse/day-to-day.md) for the market half of it.

## How the screens are arranged

| Area | What it holds |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Left sidebar** | The main navigation. It lists every screen in the product |
| **Top right** | The property selector. Use it to switch between the hotels you have access to |
| **Filter bar** | On each screen, the period, the comparison and the filters the numbers are drawn for |
| **Main canvas** | The screen you opened |

RoomPulse is laid out on the same idea. It also works on one property at a time, and its property selector sits at the top of the screen. See [Finding your way around RoomPulse](/revhero-docs/roompulse/roompulse.md).

## Your first week

Work through these steps in order. Each step links to the page that covers it.

| Day | Do this |
| --- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| 1 | Sign in to Revhero, set your password, and confirm which property you are looking at. See [Settings](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-setup/settings.md). |
| 1 | Walk through the [Dashboard](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard.md). Check that yesterday's revenue matches your PMS. |
| 2 | Open the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md). Learn how to read one date. |
| 2 | Sign in to [RoomPulse](/revhero-docs/roompulse/roompulse.md) with the same credentials. Review your competitor set and confirm that the right hotels are in it. See [Competitors & competitor groups](/revhero-docs/roompulse/rate-settings/competitors.md). |
| 3 | Read [Market Rates](/revhero-docs/roompulse/market-rates.md) for the next 30 days. Note the dates where your rate sits far from the market. |
| 3 | Read this week's [rate recommendations](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations.md) for those same dates. Send nothing yet. Your aim is to understand what is being suggested. |
| 3 | Enter your annual budget and your monthly targets. See [Budget & Target](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/budget-target.md). |
| 4 | Send the rate for 1 date. A quiet midweek date about 60 days out is a good choice. Then confirm that it arrived. See [Sending rates](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board/send-rates.md). |
| 4 | Check [Parity](/revhero-docs/roompulse/parity.md). It shows whether one of your own channels is selling your hotel at a different price. |
| 5 | Set your **Min Rate** and **Max Rate**. No rate can then go out above or below them. See [Pricing](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing.md). |

After that week you should be comfortable running Revhero on your own. The next step is [the 15-minute daily routine](/revhero-docs/getting-started/daily-routine.md).

## 5 things to know before you start

**Revhero, RoomPulse and webhotelier share one set of credentials.** The products are integrated, so the login you use for one opens the others. You do not keep a separate password for each.

**Your booking data arrives in regular syncs. It does not arrive instantly.** A **sync** is the transfer of data from your connected systems into Revhero. The **Last Upd.** stamp on the [Dashboard](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard.md) tells you when your data last arrived. For live, to-the-minute numbers, use your PMS.

**A rate you send does not appear everywhere at once.** Your channel manager passes the rate on to the OTAs and to your booking engine, and each of them refreshes on its own schedule. It is normal for a rate not to be visible the moment you send it.

**You decide what goes out.** Revhero suggests a rate, and a rate reaches your channels when you send it. The one exception is [Autopilot](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/autopilot.md). If you switch it on, Revhero applies recommended rates for you on the dates you allow, inside your **Min Rate** and **Max Rate**. It is off until you turn it on.

**Every change is recorded.** The [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md) holds every rate sent and every setting changed, with the date, the time and the user.
