# Using recommendations in practice

Your daily routine — review, compare, decide, send — and the habits that keep it quick.

A recommendation has no value until it becomes a rate on sale. This page is the routine you run each day. It should take minutes, not an hour.

## The 4 things you can do

For any date you have 4 choices. The words are the same on the Dashboard widget and on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md).

| Action | When you use it | What happens |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Accept** | The suggestion matches your own view of the date | The recommended rate becomes your send rate |
| **Modify** | The direction is right, but the amount is not | Your edited rate becomes the send rate |
| **Override** | You know something Revhero cannot know, such as a group block, an event or maintenance | Your own rate becomes the send rate |
| **Skip** | You disagree, and you do not want to change anything | Your current rate stays. Revhero suggests again on its next run |

## The daily routine

**1. Open the widget.** The **Rate Recommendation** calendar shows the recommended rate against your current rate for every date. Each date has a background colour for the direction. Read the pattern of colours before you read any number.

**2. Compare it with what you know.** Check the occupancy on the date. Check whether bookings are speeding up or slowing down. Check local events and holidays. Check what your comp set is doing in [Competitor Rate Analysis](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/dashboard/competitor-rate-analysis.md). Your **comp set** is the group of hotels you have named as your direct competitors.

**3. Decide, date by date or in bulk.** Use a [bulk accept](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/accepting-in-bulk.md) for a stable run of dates. Open the unusual dates one by one.

**4. Send.** Read the preview and click **Confirm**. The rates then go to your channel manager. Revhero does not change the dates you skipped or replaced.

## Habits worth building

**Look every day, or every other day.** Recommendations reflect your bookings as of the last run in which they changed. Looking daily keeps you up to date. Looking weekly does not.

**Write down why you set your own rate.** Add a one-line note each time you replace a recommendation. Those notes let you review the season honestly afterwards. They also show you whether you replace rates for a good reason, or only from habit.

**Look back at past dates.** [Daily Performance](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/daily-performance.md) shows what was recommended for dates that have now passed. Compare your own decisions against those suggestions over a month. That tells you how much to trust the recommendations at your property.

**Watch for a change you make every time.** You may always change a rate in the same direction. That pattern tells you something about your price range or your supplement structure. A **supplement** is an amount you add to the base rate, for example for a larger room. Fix the cause in [Pricing](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing.md), instead of typing the same rate again every morning.

{% hint style="info" %}
A recommendation you ignore costs you nothing. A recommendation you accept without looking at the date can lose you revenue on a busy weekend. The routine is quick because you choose which dates deserve your attention, not because you accept everything.
{% endhint %}
