# Recommended Rate Settings

Five settings that tune how Revhero's recommendations behave for each of your properties.

Every property is different. Some hotels want recommendations that follow their own booking pace closely. Others watch their competitors more. Some want small, careful moves. Others are happy for the rate to move further.

**Recommended Rate Settings** let you decide this for each property. Users with the **Admin** or **Operator** role can change them.

## The five settings

| Setting | What it decides |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Competitors Weight** | How strongly your competitors' prices pull the recommendation towards the market |
| **Pick-up Weight** | How strongly your booking pace moves the recommendation. Booking faster than last year pushes the rate up. Booking slower pushes it down |
| **Aggressiveness** | How far each recommendation may move away from your current **Send Rate**: **Low**, **Medium** or **High**. It starts at **Low** |
| **Ignore Min Rate** | Lets the recommendation go below your **Min Rate**. Off unless you switch it on |
| **Ignore Max Rate** | Lets the recommendation go above your **Max Rate**. Off unless you switch it on |

You set **Competitors Weight** and **Pick-up Weight** as percentages. A property you have not changed uses the standard settings.

## Changing them

Open **Recommended Rate Settings** and choose **Manage Settings**. You can change the settings for one property on its own. Or you can select several properties and give them all the same settings in one go.

Your changes apply from the next time Revhero produces recommendations for the property. They do not change rates you have already sent.

## How the settings work together

The two weights and **Aggressiveness** do different jobs. Knowing the difference saves most of the confusion.

* **The weights decide where Revhero aims.** **Competitors Weight** decides how much your competitors' prices count. **Pick-up Weight** decides how much your booking pace counts.
* **Aggressiveness decides how big each step is.** Each step is measured from your current **Send Rate**.

So high weights on **Low** aim far but move in small steps. If your competitors are well above you and you set a high **Competitors Weight**, a recommendation on **Low** still moves only a small step from your **Send Rate**. To close a large gap sooner, raise **Aggressiveness** as well.

When you accept a recommendation, it becomes your new **Send Rate**, and the next step starts from there. If you do not accept it, your **Send Rate** stays where it is, and the next recommendation is again one step from it.

## Using the settings with Autopilot

With [Autopilot](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/autopilot.md) on, every recommendation is sent for you and becomes your new **Send Rate**. The steps add up quickly, in either direction.

If you use Autopilot:

* Start with **Aggressiveness** at **Low**.
* Keep your **Max Rate** realistic, and leave **Ignore Max Rate** off. With **Ignore Max Rate** on, nothing stops a run of steps upwards except the size of each step.
* Check your recommendations every day for the first week or two after a change.

## How to choose

| If this sounds like you | Try |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| Your own bookings are the best guide to your demand | A higher **Pick-up Weight** |
| You compete closely on price with a clear set of hotels | A higher **Competitors Weight** |
| You have a strong position and do not want to follow the market closely | A lower **Competitors Weight** |
| Your comp set is weak, or does not reflect your guests' real choices | A lower **Competitors Weight** |
| You want steady, small changes that are easy to check | **Aggressiveness** at **Low** |
| You trust the recommendations and want them to react faster | **Aggressiveness** at **Medium** or **High** |

## Practical examples

These examples show how the settings work together. The percentages are starting points to try, not rules. Every hotel is different, so watch the results for a couple of weeks and adjust.

### "I want to stay close to the market, follow my bookings closely and move quickly"

| Competitors Weight | Pick-up Weight | Aggressiveness |
| ------------------ | -------------- | -------------- |
| 70% | 60% | **High** |

Your competitors' prices and your booking pace both count for a lot, and each step can be large. If your competitors are well above you, the recommendation moves towards them in bigger steps. Once you accept it, the next step starts from your new **Send Rate**.

Rates can now change a lot from one recommendation to the next, in either direction. If you use Autopilot with these settings, keep your **Max Rate** realistic, leave **Ignore Max Rate** off, and check the recommendations every day for the first week or two.

### The same wishes on Low: why it does not work

| Competitors Weight | Pick-up Weight | Aggressiveness |
| ------------------ | -------------- | -------------- |
| 70% | 60% | **Low** |

The weights tell Revhero you want to be close to the market. But on **Low**, each step stays small, so the recommendation only creeps towards the market. To follow the market closely, raise **Aggressiveness** as well.

### "I trust my own pricing and want small, steady changes"

| Competitors Weight | Pick-up Weight | Aggressiveness |
| ------------------ | -------------- | -------------- |
| 10% | 20% | **Low** |

The market has little pull, your booking pace counts a little, and each step is small. This suits a hotel whose rates are already well set, or a hotel just starting with Autopilot.

### "I want to follow my own bookings, not the competition"

| Competitors Weight | Pick-up Weight | Aggressiveness |
| ------------------ | -------------- | -------------- |
| 0% | 60% | **Medium** |

Your competitors' prices no longer decide where Revhero aims, although Revhero still reads your market. Your booking pace against last year counts for more. Each step is medium-sized. This suits a hotel with a weak comp set, or one whose guests do not really compare it with the hotels nearby.

## Making a change

Change one setting at a time. Then watch the recommendations for a week or two before you change another. That way you can see what each change did. The [explanation](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/reading-the-explanation.md) beside each recommended rate shows how much your competitors and your pickup pushed it.

## Ignoring your Min Rate or Max Rate

Your **Min Rate** and **Max Rate** normally hold every recommendation inside your range. If a range is out of date, or set far too wide, it can decide the recommendation instead of your demand.

The better fix is usually to correct the range. See [your minimum rate](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/what-it-considers/minimum-rate.md). Use **Ignore Min Rate** or **Ignore Max Rate** when you would rather see what Revhero recommends without your range in the way. **Aggressiveness** still limits each step when a limit is switched off.

## What the settings do not change

Some behaviour is the same for every property, whatever you choose.

* **A sold-out date keeps its rate.** When the whole hotel is full on a date, Revhero does not reprice it. If only some room types are sold out, the hotel is not full, and the date is repriced as normal.
* **The recommendation is for your base room.** Your other rooms, boards and occupancies follow from it through your [supplement structure](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing/pricing-structure.md).

## Questions people ask

**I changed a setting. Why don't I see a difference?** Settings apply from the next time Revhero produces recommendations, not straight away.

**I raised Competitors Weight. Why am I still far from the market?** The weight changes where Revhero aims. **Aggressiveness** still limits each step from your **Send Rate**. Raise **Aggressiveness**, or accept the recommendations so your **Send Rate** moves.

**My dates are selling fast. Why doesn't the rate jump?** **Pick-up Weight** nudges the recommendation. It does not replace the other things Revhero reads. If booking pace matters a lot at your hotel, raise **Pick-up Weight**.

**My base room is sold out. Why is the rate still changing?** The sold-out hold looks at the whole hotel. While other rooms are still available on that date, Revhero keeps recommending a rate for it.
