# Introduction

What a rate recommendation is, what it prices, and how you stay in control of every rate that goes out.

A **rate recommendation** is a suggested price for one future stay date. Revhero produces one recommendation for every date in your pricing window. Your **pricing window** is how far ahead Revhero prices, up to 365 days.

**You stay in control.** A recommendation is a suggestion, not a change. You decide whether to accept it. You can change it, replace it with your own rate, or ignore it. Nothing reaches your channel manager until you send it. Your **channel manager** is the system that passes your rates to your channels.

The one exception is [Autopilot](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/autopilot.md), which you switch on yourself. It applies recommended rates for you, only on the dates you allow, and only inside the price range you set. It is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off again at any time.

*The recommended rate sits beside the rate you are selling. Your rate does not move until you send it yourself.*

## What the automation does, and what you do

| Revhero does this | You do this |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| Produces a recommended rate for every date in the pricing window, several times a day | Read the recommendations for the dates you care about |
| Keeps every recommendation inside the **Min Rate** and **Max Rate** you set | Set that range, and change it when your strategy changes |
| Puts the recommended rate beside your current rate, so the difference is visible | Accept it, edit it, replace it or ignore it, date by date |
| Shows you a preview of every rate about to leave | Confirm the send, or un-tick the rows you want to keep |
| Records every send in the [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md) | Check the record whenever you need to prove what went out |

Revhero never decides for you unless you have asked it to. The rate that reaches your channels is the rate you approved.

## Recommendations are refreshed several times a day

Revhero produces recommended rates **multiple times per day**, for every date in your pricing window. Each new set replaces the last one on screen.

This means two things for you.

1. The suggestion you read in the morning may have moved by the afternoon, because your bookings and your market moved.
2. You do not have to catch every refresh. The recommendation waiting for you is always the current one.

A recommendation that has not changed since yesterday is not a failure. It means the earlier suggestion still holds.

## The controls you have

Accepting or ignoring a suggestion is the first control. These are the rest.

| Control | What it gives you | Where |
| ----------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Min Rate and Max Rate** | A hard price range. No recommendation and no send goes outside it | [Pricing structures](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing/pricing-structure.md) |
| **Yield Mode** — Base, Room, Custom, Unit | How wide a single decision reaches. Price the base room and let everything derive from it, or override one room, board and occupancy on its own | [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md) |
| **Your own supplement structure** | The relationships between your room types, boards and occupancies. Revhero moves the base rate, and your structure moves the rest | [Pricing](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing/pricing-structure.md) |
| **Bulk Update and Copy From** | Accept the recommendations across a whole window in one action, then correct the few dates you disagree with | [Accepting in bulk](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/accepting-in-bulk.md) |
| **Restrictions** | Minimum stay, set over the same dates in the same flow | [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md) |
| **Autopilot** | Recommended rates applied for you, on the dates you allow only | [Autopilot](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/autopilot.md) |
| **The preview** | The last check before anything leaves | [Sending rates](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board/send-rates.md) |

Used together, these keep your pricing consistent without giving up the decision. You set the limits and the shape of your pricing once. After that, most days are a short review and one send.

## What it prices

A recommendation is the rate for your **base room, at base board and base occupancy**. That is the single room type, meal basis and number of guests your prices are built from.

Every other room type, board and occupancy is worked out from that one number. Revhero uses your [Pricing](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing/pricing-structure.md) supplement structure to do this. A **supplement** is an amount you add to the base rate, for example for a larger room or for half board.

This works the same way as when you set a rate by hand.

This is deliberate. Your supplement structure already holds the relationships between your products. It knows what a deluxe room is worth over a standard room, what half board adds, and what a third adult costs. Revhero moves the base rate, and your own pricing logic moves everything else with it. Your room types therefore stay in a sensible order.

## What it gives you

* A rate for every future date in the pricing window, refreshed several times a day.
* A reading of more demand signals than one person can hold in mind at once. See [what a recommendation considers](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/what-it-considers.md).

## How it fits your day

1. Revhero refreshes the recommendations several times a day.
2. You review them on the Dashboard and on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md).
3. For each date you accept, change, replace or ignore the suggestion.
4. You send the rates you accepted. You see a preview first, then the rates go to your channel manager.

You make the final decision at every step. Steps 2 and 3 are yours, and step 4 does not happen without you.

## Words used in this section

| Term | What it means |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Recommended rate | The rate suggested for a stay date, at base room, base board and base occupancy |
| Current rate | The rate you are selling that date at today |
| Minimum rate | The lowest rate you allow. A recommendation is never below it |
| Pricing window | How far ahead recommendations are produced, up to 365 days |
| Send Rate | The column holding the rate you are about to send. Filling it is how you accept a recommendation |
| Yield Mode | How wide one decision reaches: Base, Room, Custom or Unit |
| Autopilot | Recommended rates applied for you, on the dates you allow. Off until you switch it on |

{% hint style="info" %}
Rate Recommendations and [Forecasting](/revhero-docs/your-hotels-performance/forecasting.md) are two different features. Forecasting predicts your revenue and your room nights. Rate Recommendations price your dates. Neither one produces the other.
