# Autopilot

The two ways of working with recommendations — deciding each rate yourself, or letting Autopilot apply them on the dates you choose.

There are two ways to work with Revhero's rate recommendations. You choose which one, and you can move between them whenever you want.

| Way of working | Who applies the rate | When to choose it |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Consultation** | You do. Revhero recommends, you accept, change or ignore, then you send | Any date where you want the last word. This is how Revhero works until you decide otherwise |
| **Autopilot** | Revhero does, on the dates you allow and inside your price range | Routine periods where you would have accepted the recommendation anyway |

Most hotels use both at the same time. They put routine periods on Autopilot, and keep the dates that matter most in consultation.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Consultation** is simply how Revhero behaves when Autopilot is not running on a date. There is no button to press for it. The only switch is Autopilot itself, which is **OFF** until you turn it **ON**.
{% endhint %}

## Consultation — you decide every rate

This is the starting point, and it is where every date sits until you put it on Autopilot.

1. Revhero refreshes the recommended rates several times a day.
2. You read them on the Dashboard widget or on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md).
3. For each date you accept the suggestion, change it, replace it with your own rate, or ignore it.
4. You fill **Send Rate**, read the preview, and send.

Nothing reaches your channel manager in this way of working until you send it. See [Quick start](/revhero-docs/automation/rate-recommendations/quick-start.md).

## Autopilot — Revhero applies the rate for you

**Autopilot applies Revhero's recommended rates for you**, on the dates you allow, without you sending them by hand each day.

It solves the most common problem in revenue management: not bad decisions, but missed updates. Most hotels price well when they get to it. Autopilot makes sure the recommended rate is applied on time, every time, inside the limits you have set.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Autopilot is the one case where a rate reaches your channel manager without you pressing **Send**. Everywhere else in Revhero, nothing goes out until you send it. Autopilot sends on a live property, so treat switching it on as a real pricing decision.
{% endhint %}

*On the dates you allow, the recommended rate is applied for you. It always stays between your Min Rate and your Max Rate, and never touches the dates you excluded.*

## Where to find it

Click **Rules Manager** in the left-hand menu. The screen always shows whether Autopilot is **ON** or **OFF**.

## What it does

* Applies the recommended rate automatically, for the dates you allow.
* Removes the repetitive work of sending the same updates every day.
* Keeps your pricing updates consistent and on time.

## You stay in control

Autopilot does not take the decision away from you. It carries out a decision you already made.

* You choose whether it runs at all. It is **OFF** until you switch it **ON**.
* You choose which dates it covers, and you can change that choice at any time.
* You set the **Min Rate** and **Max Rate** it must stay inside.
* You can take any date back, by excluding it.
* You can switch the whole thing off in one action.
* Everything it does is written to the [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md), so you can always see what was applied and when.

## The limits it always respects

| Limit | What it means |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Your Min Rate and Max Rate** | Autopilot never sends outside your range. Your [pricing structure](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing/pricing-structure.md) is always honoured |
| **The dates you chose** | Autopilot runs only on the dates you allow. It never touches the rest |
| **Your control** | To take a date back, exclude it in the Autopilot settings. While Autopilot owns a date, its **Send Rate** is held on the Yielding Board |
| **The record** | Every action is written to the [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md) |

## Setting it up

1. Open **Rules Manager** from the left-hand menu.
2. Check the Autopilot status. It is always clear whether it is ON or OFF.
3. Choose how it runs:
   * **All Periods** — Autopilot covers every future date in your operational period.
   * **Date Range** — Autopilot covers only the dates you name, for example January and February.
4. Exclude any specific days you want to keep for yourself.
5. Click **Save**.

Nothing changes until you click **Save**. Until then you are only editing the settings.

## Including and excluding dates

This is the part to understand properly, because it decides who prices each date.

### The two choices work together

**Date Range** decides the block of dates Autopilot may cover. **Exclusions** take individual days back out of that block.

Think of it as one sentence: *Autopilot covers this range, except these days.*

Choose **All Periods** and the range becomes every future date in your operational period. Exclusions still apply on top of it.

### What happens to a date Autopilot owns

While Autopilot owns a date, it holds that date's **Send Rate** on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md). You cannot price that date by hand while it is held. That is deliberate: it stops your manual rate and Autopilot's rate from fighting each other on the same date.

### Excluding a date, so you can price it yourself

Excluding is how you take a date back.

1. Open **Rules Manager**.
2. Add that day to the exclusions.
3. Click **Save**.

The date is now yours. Its **Send Rate** is released on the Yielding Board, and you price and send it in the normal way. Autopilot leaves it alone until you remove the exclusion.

**Do this in advance.** Exclude an event weekend when you plan the period, not on the morning you want to change the price.

### Including a date again

To hand a date back to Autopilot, remove its exclusion in **Rules Manager** and click **Save**. The date returns to Autopilot's control, and its **Send Rate** is held again.

### Which dates to exclude

| Exclude | Why |
| -------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| Event dates, festivals and local holidays | Revhero does not know an event is happening. You do |
| Dates carrying a group block | The remaining rooms need a decision Autopilot cannot make |
| Dates where you are negotiating business | A rate that moves on its own undermines the negotiation |
| Any date you would want to check before it changed | If you would reverse the decision, do not give it away |

Everything else is a candidate for Autopilot.

## Turning it off

Switch Autopilot **OFF** at any time. Nothing runs unless you allow it. Every date returns to consultation, and you price them all yourself again.

To start again, switch it back **ON**, choose your dates, and click **Save**.

## When to use it, and when not to

| Use Autopilot | Keep the date in consultation |
| ---------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| You already follow the recommendations most of the time | Peak dates with a special event or festival |
| Periods with a steady, predictable demand pattern | Dates carrying a group block, or anything unusual |
| You manage several properties and the workload is heavy | A new property that is still building up history |
| Your team sometimes misses the daily rate update | |
| Shoulder-season dates where the pricing is straightforward | |

Many hotels use both. They let Autopilot handle routine periods, such as midweek shoulder dates, and keep manual control of the dates that matter most — peak weekends, events and holidays.

## Seeing what Autopilot did

Autopilot is visible in 3 places.

| Where | What you see |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| [Table View](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board/table-view.md) | Which dates are under Autopilot control. After Autopilot sends, **Send Rate** shows the rate it sent, and **Last Send** keeps the rate before it |
| [Calendar View](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board/calendar-view.md) | A **Rule** chip on every tile Autopilot is looking after, with the recommended rate and the current send rate side by side |
| [Event Log](/revhero-docs/automation/event-log.md) | Every rate change Autopilot made, with the date and time |

The Event Log is Autopilot's audit trail. Open it, read the entries, and download the record if you need it. This is what you show an owner, a manager or an auditor when you need to prove what was applied and when.

**Rules Manager is where you set the control. The Yielding Board is where you see the result.**

## If something looks wrong

| What you see | What to do |
| ---------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Autopilot applied a rate you disagree with | Exclude that date in **Rules Manager** and **Save**. Its **Send Rate** is then released, and you set and send your own rate on the [Yielding Board](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/yielding-board.md) |
| You cannot type into **Send Rate** for a date | Autopilot owns that date and is holding it. Exclude the date in **Rules Manager**, click **Save**, then price it |
| Autopilot is touching dates you wanted to keep | Open **Rules Manager**, switch to **Date Range**, or exclude those days. Then **Save** |
| Rates all sit at the same figure | Your range may be too narrow. Check **Min Rate** and **Max Rate** in [Pricing](/revhero-docs/setting-your-rates/pricing.md) |
| You are not sure whether it is running | Open **Rules Manager**. The status is always shown |
| You would reverse its decisions regularly | Exclude those dates, or switch Autopilot off, and go back to accepting recommendations yourself |
